Fed: Reserve officers graduate at testing time - Vale

CANBERRA, Feb 15 AAP - A group of 121 Army Reserve officers graduated today to facean international environment of terrorism and peacekeeping, Minister Assisting the Ministerfor Defence Danna Vale said.

The part-time, general service officer cadets would graduate into the army as SecondLieutenants after completing a tough training program.

The training generally took two years for the Reservists to complete through theirlocal university regiments and was followed by six weeks of full-time training at Duntroon.

"You graduate at a time when the international community is grappling with the securitychallenges of terrorism, while concurrently responding to humanitarian crises and operationson the peacekeeping spectrum," Ms Vale said.

She said Reservists had an essential role to play alongside full-time colleagues inAustralia's response to these challenges.

"As many of you would be aware, Reserve officers are serving today in places like EastTimor, Bougainville and Malaysia."
