Qld: Nicholls jury out for second day

A Brisbane District Court jury will resume deliberations today in the official corruptiontrial of former ABC journalist and Liberal party adviser CHRIS NICHOLLS.

The jury has been considering its verdict for the past two days.

NICHOLLS, aged 41, of Magill in Adelaide, has pleaded not guilty to nine charges ofsoliciting or receiving secret commissions between March 12, 1997 and August 15, 1997.

The prosecution alleges NICHOLLS tried to help developer Vanwell Pty Ltd obtain approvaland permits for its Oyster Cove development at Hope Island, on the Gold Coast.

It's alleged NICHOLLS sought and got money and benefits from the company when the developerswere trying to get approvals and permits for the luxury resort from the state government.

At the time NICHOLLS was fisheries adviser to then Borbidge government Primary IndustriesMinister TREVOR PERRETT.

The jury is expected to continue deliberations tomorrow if no verdict is reached tonight.
