FED: Christmas a time to think of those less fortunate: G-G

CANBERRA, Dec 24 AAP - Governor-General Quentin Bryce will spend her first Christmas
in the vice-regal role thinking of the disadvantaged and isolated.

Ms Bryce, who became the country's first female governor-general when she took office
in September, urged people to think of those less fortunate at Christmas time.

But it was also a happy time, the Queenslander said.

"Christmas is a time for family celebrations."

"It's a time to enjoy the wonderful country we live in, a time for contemplating the
year's end, and fresh beginnings."

Ms Bryce said she would also be thinking of Australia's defence forces who were spending
Christmas away from their home and family.

Her husband Michael joined her in wishing all Australians a safe and happy Christmas,
Ms Bryce said.
